Summer Office Refresh: Deep Cleaning and Revitalizing Your Workspace

Not many people realise this, but Summer is actually the perfect time for deep cleaning your office! After all, you’ve heard of spring-cleaning; why not summer cleaning?

The sun comes out, the weather warms up, and it’s a great opportunity to cleanse and refresh your workspace. It’s also a nice mid-year opportunity to boost productivity, focus, and happiness for your hard-working employees! So if you want to deep clean your office for the summer, here are our top tips!

How to Deep Clean an Office: Step-by-Step

Deep cleaning your office all at once might seem overwhelming, so it’s important to break it down into different steps.

How can I clean most efficiently? You will need to understand the basics of office cleaning.

A good way to start is by dividing your office into different sections, like your desks and workspaces, communal areas, meeting rooms, kitchen, bathrooms, lobby, and any outdoor spaces.

Within those spaces, you’ll have to make sure you declutter your working space to transform your messy space into a Zen one. Then don't forget to dust, wipe, sweep, vacuum, mop, and discard any rubbish.

One of the reasons Summer is such a good time to clean is because offices are generally a little quieter. This means it’s less crowded, and you can get some good cleaning done!

Creating an Office Deep Cleaning Checklist

An office deep cleaning checklist allows you to keep track of what needs to be cleaned and when. This creates visibility, accountability, and a more organised approach to cleaning.

While every office is going to have slightly different cleaning needs, this checklist is a great place to start!

Your Office Deep Cleaning Checklist

  • Declutter, dust, and organise all surfaces, including desks, shelves, cabinets, and clean your electronic equipment
  • Empty Rubbish Bins: Dispose of all rubbish and recycling materials
  • Vacuuming and Mopping: Thoroughly vacuum carpets and mop hard floors.
  • Disinfect High-Touch Areas: Clean and disinfect doorknobs, light switches, handles, whiteboards, and remote controls
  • Kitchen Appliances: Deep clean in the inside and outside of the fridge, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, and any other appliances
  • Discard out-of-date food in the fridge and cupboards
  • Clean the Bathroom: thoroughly clean the office bathroom including toilet bowls, urinals, sinks, mirrors, and surfaces
  • Refil: Soap and paper towels in the bathroom, tea and coffee in the kitchen, tissues and hand sanitiser throughout the office, and any other supplies that need stocking.
  • Furniture: spray and wipe furniture, including tables, benches, couches and stools
  • Disinfect remote controls, whiteboards, and other
  • Clean Windows: both inside and out, and all glass surfaces
  • Neatly arrange and restock brochures, magazines, and reading material in the lobby

For An Extra Deep Clean

  • Steam clean or shampoo the carpets to remove stains
  • Get the furniture and upholstery professionally cleaned
  • Check and clean the air vents and ducts for improved air quality
  • Clean the walls and ceilings to prevent dust buildup.

Tips for Maintaining a Clean Office Environment

One of the most important tips for a clean office environment is regular maintenance and tidying.

A deep clean is all well and good, but the standards of cleanliness need to be maintained throughout the year to keep your office happy and healthy.

Here are some important principles to prevent grime and dirt from building up in your office:

The Importance of Regular Office Cleaning

Because offices are such busy environments, a surprising amount of mess can accumulate in just a few hours.

It’s a good idea to encourage workers to do a quick end-of-day tidy-up to keep their workspaces in good condition.

Small actions like wiping down desks, putting rubbish in the bins, and returning items to their shelves and cupboards make a big difference in keeping your office clean.

Other things in the office will need to be cleaned on a weekly basis. Keep a cleaning schedule or a checklist visible, so that you can ensure important areas are being cleaned and disinfected regularly.

How Often Should You Deep Clean Your Office?

How often you deep clean your office is going to depend on how big it is, and how many people use it.

Large office spaces with many people might need a monthly deep-clean, whereas a smaller office could stretch to maybe once a quarter.

It’s also a good idea to deep clean your office more often during cold and flu season to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria.

Cleaning: deep cleaning

Arrival was prompt and my cleaner was very polite and professional. I had a booked an end of tenancy clean, advising that the property would be empty but I could supply a steam mop and vacuum. My cleaner arrived with no cleaning products or equipment so I had to then buy products, to allow the clean to go ahead. The work itself was of a fair standard. Some spots were missed which I had to go over but the remainder of the property was very clean.
