Maybe you’ve tried one or two and are wondering what it would be like to try the other. Or maybe you’re ready to try one for the first time but you’re not sure which service would best suit you and your desired look.

The question is, how do they compare? And which is right for you?

Here’s our guide to everything you need to know about each type of eyelash makeover, the pros and cons, and best practice tips on how to choose.

What is an eyelash tint?

Put simply, an eyelash tint is a dye that you apply to your own lashes.

It is designed to darken and define the natural colour of your lashes, making them appear more visible, lengthened and voluminous.

During an eyelash tint, a professional makeup artist will use a safe-to-wear solution to coat individual lash clusters in a solution that darkens the colour.

A lash tint can last anywhere from a few days to as long as a month, depending on your own lashes and how often you apply mascara.

An eyelash tint is a good option for people who love wearing mascara but don’t want to have to put the product on every single day. If you have light lashes or lighter coloured eyes, a lash tint can be a great option because it will help your natural lashes stand out even more!

Unlike eyelash extensions, mascara is allowed to be worn during this process. However, if you plan on having makeup applied daily to achieve a flawless face, an eyelash tint may not be the best choice.

How much does an eyelash tint cost?

While lash tints vary in price, you can expect to pay around £15-20 for an individual service.

If you prefer a longer-lasting result, you can also pay extra to have two or three ‘tinting’ sessions done as part of the process (the results may last up to three months).

It is important to note that many salons offer conditioning or softening wash after the tint has been applied, in order to help with lash hydration and avoid any damage. This is optional and will cost extra – but it is definitely helpful if you want your lashes lasting longer!

Booking an eyelash tint

Eyelash tints are suitable for any age and lash length, however, it is advised that you first consult with your parents or guardian before booking an appointment if you are under the age of 18.

At Wecasa, we offer at-home eyelash tinting performed by an experienced mobile lash technician starting at £14.90.

The pros and cons of eyelash tinting

The pros:

  • Perfect for everyday wear and tear on your lashes
  • Enriched conditioners help to promote lash growth and hydration
  • Suitable for any age and lash length
  • No damage done during the tinting process (unlike eyelash extensions which are more harsh on the lashes)

The cons:

  • Your hairs must be dark enough to absorb the tint (which means you must wait around 6-8 weeks after your last dye)
  • Must be done every 2-3 weeks to maintain the look

What is an eyelash lift?

An eyelash lift is an eyelash treatment designed to provide a similar outcome to a lash tint.

The service begins with a gentle cleanse of the face to remove any product or oil. The eyelashes are then nourished with hydrating serums before an eye mask is used to further nourish the lashes from the root.

Curlers and serums are applied, followed by a strengthening treatment that helps to protect against breakage and lash loss.

Next, a lifting solution is then applied to the lashes, designed to lift and hold them in place.

Finally, the lashes are curled for a subtle curl that makes eyes appear larger and wider.

With an eyelash lift, you can achieve a more dramatic curl than with an eyelash tint, but it does not last as long – usually around two to three months.

Booking an eyelash lift

If you feel like your lashes lack the curl and length that they once had, then an eyelash lift may be a great option! If you’re in need of a little extra ‘lift’ to open up your eyes and make them look wider, then this is what you’re looking for.

Eyelash lifts are suitable for most – but not all lash lengths. The length of your lashes can affect the overall look of your eyes, so it’s important to consult with a professional before booking an appointment if you have shorter lashes.

An eyelash lift will typically last for up to three months.

How much does an eyelash lift cost?

Eyelash lifts can cost around £60 at most places, and will vary depending on your location, the condition of your lashes and how many you would like done.

At home eyelash lifts are available for £54.90 with Wecasa beauty technician.

The pros and cons of eyelash lifts

An eyelash lift may not be the ideal option for everyone, so it’s essential to review the pros and cons before deciding on this treatment.

The pros:

  • Gives a subtle curl to lashes, perfect for a natural everyday look
  • Suitable for most lash lengths (though not all)
  • Adds length and opens up the eyes

The cons:

  • May require frequent upkeep
  • Can be overpowering for shorter lashes (if lash is lifted too high)

What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions give the appearance of thicker, longer, and more voluminous lashes.

During an eyelash extension appointment, your lash tech will cleanse your lashes and lash line. An adhesive will then be applied to the base of your lashes, before they are lengthened by applying several semi-permanent extensions to each individual eyelash.

After the application is complete, each extension is trimmed to fit your natural lash length – this step ensures that the lashes feel comfortable to wear and that no pupillary blockage occurs beneath the eyes.

Finally, each eyelash will be checked for symmetry before setting with a lash-sealing gel.

Eyelash extensions are the perfect option if you want longer, thicker lashes without needing to apply false lashes every day.

Typically, you can expect your lashes to last up to three weeks.

At Wecasa, we always recommend an initial consultation with one of our lash technicians to discuss your needs and wants before booking an appointment.

If you already have fairly long lashes but just want a subtle lash-enhancing effect, then an eyelash tint may be perfect for you.

If you’re in need of a little more than just a tint, feel like your lashes lack the curl and length that they once had, or are just looking for a little extra ‘lift’ to open up your eyes and make them look wider, then try an eyelash lift!

And for some people, both of these treatments may be great options!
