Clever Pantry Organisation Ideas to Maximise Space

If you want your kitchen to feel nice and organised, one of your first tasks might be start with decluttering your pantry.

It’s one of the smartest kitchen organisation hacks because it allows you to maximise space, create more visibility about what you actually own, and give you easy access to items you frequently use.

So if you’re finally getting around to decluttering your kitchen cabinets and pantry – here are some tried and tested methods!

Using Adjustable Shelving in Your Pantry

Adjustable shelving is a great storage and organisation tip for even the smallest of spaces! They allow you to make the shelves as tall or as short as you need, so that you can tailor the space to suit your individual storage needs.

You can make the shelves shorter if you need to store small objects like jars or shallow tubs, and make other shelves taller so you can store tall boxes and bottles.

Creating Door and Wall Storage

The space on your pantry wall and door doesn’t have to be left blank! You can make use of the back of the pantry door and available wall space by installing hooks, racks, or organisers.

Over-the-door racks or clear pockets can hold small items like spices, seasoning packets, and utensils, while magnetic strips can hold metal containers with spices or small jars.

This creative use of door and wall space is a greatly an underrated kitchen organisation hack, so be sure to try it.

Lazy Susans and Turntables as Kitchen Organisation Hacks

You can incorporate lazy Susans or turntables within the pantry to easily access items stored in deep corners or high shelves. These rotating platforms make it easy to reach items at the back without having to rummage through the larder or unpack a whole heap of items.

Instead of trying to reach that one little jar hiding in the very back corner, you can simply spin the lazy Susan or turntable and bring your items closer to you!

It’s also a great way to ensure nothing gets lost or forgotten, which is always a bonus.

Use Clear Containers and Label Everything

One of the easiest ways to make your pantry look and feel more organised, is to use clear containers and make sure everything is labelled – you can use this trick for bathroom storage too!

Dry goods like flour, sugar, pasta, rice, and cereals can be stored in clear, airtight containers which allows you to see their contents and quantities. Now, that’s one way to get rid of fruit flies!

It’s also a good idea to label everything so that you don’t get any items confused. No one wants a cake made with salt instead of sugar…

If your drawers are feeling cluttered and chaotic, it’s time to work a little DIY magic. Drawer dividers are one of the best kitchen organisation tips to maximise space and help you easily find the utensils you need. Plus, the good news is, you can easily DIY your own drawer dividers in no time at all!

Here’s how to do it yourself:

  • Find sturdy cardboard boxes, such as old tissue boxes, cereal boxes, or even toilet paper rolls
  • Cut them in half, or cut them to size so that they are shallow and wide like a tray
  • Arrange the cardboard sections so that they will tessellate and fit inside your drawers
  • Feel free to leave them loose, or you can super glue them together so that they stay put as one big tray
  • If you want to create custom-sized compartments, trim strips of cardboard and create sections that work for you and your storage needs
  • You could even use wood instead of cardboard if you’re particularly handy

Now you have your own customised drawer dividers in a unique layout that suits your needs!
